The Paris We Love, Imagery Gallery, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, February 15th – April 30th, 2016. 40 black and white vintage photographs of Parisian street scenes taken in the mid-1980’s. Drown from Herb’s archives, this exhibition highlights the early years of his Paris explorations; an annual event since 1986.
Seth Chwast: Portrait of the Young Man as an Artist, Valley Arts Center, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, March 25th – May 4th, 2016. Seth is an internationally known, quite brilliant, and coincidentally autistic, painter. Paired with one of Seth’s paintings, each portrait explores, expands and explains the mind and work of this fascinating artist. 35 black and white silver gelatin portraits of Seth taken in various locations throughout 2015.
The Forest at Fontainebleau, 1point618 Gallery, Gordon Square, Cleveland, Ohio, April thru June 2016. Photographed throughout a five year period, and edited from over 350 8 x 10 negatives, the images displayed channel the myriad of 19 C. photographers who worked in the Barbizon period. The primal forest, captured in the ancient tones of Platinum (patented in 1873) and reinterpreted in contemporary silver gelatin, evoke the same mysterious qualities that enchanted photographers of yore.
The Halle House, Shaker Historical Society, Shaker Heights, Ohio, May 20th – July 17th, 2016. Built in 1926 by one of the Halle Brothers of department store fame, the Halle House is a 28,000 foot mansion that sits on 5 acres of secluded land in Shaker Heights. Covered in Indiana limestone, and designed as a French Chateau, it is one of the Cleveland area’s most elegant homes. Selected from over 350 images, on display are 35 hand made platinum photographs of the house and environs in the style of the great 19th Century French Barbizon landscape photographers.

A Forty-Year Retrospective, Heights Art Gallery, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, A to Z retrospective as edited by the Directors of the Heights Arts Gallery, September 2nd – October 15th, 2016. 60 Silver gelatin and platinum prints of portraiture, landscape, street photography and nudes drawn from the 150,000 black and white negatives in my archive. One color portrait is also included. All but a few of these images have ever been seen outside of the darkroom, let alone printed or shared. An intimate study of Herb Ascherman’s thought and vision from 1975 to the present.
